STREET JAZZ CLASSES
From January 2010 the street jazz classes will take place on a Thursday (not Tuesday). The venue will stay the same and the first lesson will be Thursday 14th Jan.
Group 1 will be 6-6:45pm ( This was the 6:15 Tuesday class)
Group 2 will be 6:45-7:30pm (This was the 7pm class)

It’s that time of year again to book your places for LAMDA Speech & Drama for October 2009! Lessons commence Saturday 3rd October. Sylvia Barr the Lamda teacher will be available to see anyone who has any questions on Saturday 19th September at Ridgeway School 9:30-11am.

SUMMER SCHOOL 2009
We are running a Summer Workshop for the children from Monday 20th July to Friday 24th July. The children will be doing Ballet, Tap, Modern, Singing and Drama with a workshop performance on the Friday at 1:30pm.
The hours will be from 10am to 3pm and will be held at The Sanderstead Memorial Hall, Purley Oaks Road. Children from 5 years upwards are able to attend. Cost is £80. Places are limited and are given on a first come first served basis.

Christ Church Junior Show Pupils - Monday 3:45-4:30pm & 4:30-5:15pm classes will be having a rehearsal for the Junior show on Sunday 21st June at 10:30-11:15am at Sanderstead Memorial Hall to run through their dances on the stage

Any mother’s who are willing to help backstage at the senior show please come and see me. In previous years at the Brit school I have left it up to parents to arrange supervision backstage but due to limited space at the Ashcroft Theatre I need to do a rota of mums who can chaperone the children backstage.
Without your help the show can’t go on!
All helpers will need to be CRB Police checked.
The show’s are not compulsorily, please let me know by Christmas if your child cannot perform in the shows otherwise you will still be charged a costume hire fee, which is between £3-£10 per costume.
Show’s are always a little stressful for us teachers to say the least so please be supportive! More information to follow next term…..

SIOBHAN LAMBERT IN BUGSY
Congratulations to Siobhan, who has successfully auditioned for the 'Adult Chorus' in Ravensbourne Light Operatic Society's(that's a mouthful! also known as RLOS) production of 'Bugsy Malone'.
This will be showing at the 'Churchill Theatre', Bromley 8th -11th April 2009.

CAVAT SUCCESSES

- Georgia Krelle who has successfully auditioned for “Giselle” with The English Youth Ballet on 4th & 5th November at The Whiterock Theatre, Hastings and also “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” Christmas Pantomime at The Harlequin Theatre, Redhill.
- Emma Pullen who will be appearing in the new “Argos” advert out soon.
- Liberty Lilienfeld who appeared in the “Ambi Pur” Advert Christmas 2006 & 2007.
- Liberty & Jasper Lilienfeld who modelled in the Ideal Home magazine August edition.
Cavat Agency also has adult dancers in the following Professional West End / International tour shows; Wicked, Grease, We Will Rock You, Dirty Dancing, The Lion King, High School Musical and Mamma Mia.
We are currently looking more children to join the agency, especially siblings. Please contact us for more details.
WATCH WEEK
There will be Watch Weeks for all classes at the end of the Autumn term. Please come along and watch your child’s progress. Also, feel free to watch more advanced classes to see how the children progress through the levels. There will be no watch weeks in the Spring and Summer Terms due to rehearsing for the shows.

TEACHING UPDATES
Unfortunately I ’m very sad to advise you that Laura Wan will be leaving us this term. Laura has been offered a full time Ballet teaching position in Dulwich. I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing her luck in her new job.
On the positive side we’ll still see Laura every now and again at Summer School 2008, exam sessions and shows.
Frankie Evans will be taking over teaching ballet at Cavat on Saturdays. Laura and Frankie will be teaching the classes together on 7th June and then Frankie will take over from the 14th June.
Frankie holds her Foundation of Dance Instruction with the ISTD in Ballet and holds a CRB Police Check.
Although Laura will be missed I’m sure the children will make Frankie feel very welcome.

TEACHING UPDATES
Natalie Alder returns from her contract dancing on a cruise ship and starts teaching again on Saturdays at Ridgeway School on Sat 7th June.
Paul Russell and Laura Maidment will be teaching singing alternate Saturdays at Ridgeway. Paul will be focusing more on group work whilst Laura shall be concentrating on solo voice work
SUMMER SCHOOL 2008
Summer School 2008 will be Monday 28th July – Friday 1st August from 10am-3pm, for children aged 5 and upwards. Children take lessons in Drama, Singing, Jazz, Modern, Tap & Ballet and show an informal performance at the end of the week. The cost of the week is £80 per child. CONGRATULATIONS NATALIE
Natalie Alder who teaches Modern & Tap on Saturdays at Ridgeway School. Natalie has successfully auditioned for Carnival Cruises and sadly leaves Cavat at Half Term. We will all miss her but the good news is she hopes to be back in May 2008. Caroline will be taking over teaching Natalie’s classes while she is away.

THE CHOREOGRAPHY COMPETITION
This year it will be on Saturday 24th March at 3:30pm at Sanderstead Memorial Hall, please see Caroline for an entry form. Children aged 6 years and above can enter. £3 per child entering the competition. Any children not participating are very welcome to come along to support their friends. Admission is free.
FEES FOR THE SUMMER TERM
Fees for the summer term need to be paid in one payment for this term only as there are so few lessons next term due to the shows. Please speak to Jean or Caroline if this is a problem. Please also download a diary sheet to check when classes are being held.
WATCH WEEK
There will be no Watch Weeks at the end of the spring or summer term due to the classes rehearsing for the shows.
The only exception is Roger’s drama classes on a Saturday at Ridgeway School. As the drama classes will not be in the show, parents are still welcome to watch the drama classes on the last week of the spring and summer terms.
SUMMER SHOW
There will be two separate shows this year depending on your child’s age. Whilst the show is not compulsorily for any child, please let Caroline know before the February half term if you are away for the show or would just not prefer your child to participate. Children in the show must do all performances, the exception being the 2½ – 4yr olds in the baby classes and how tired they feel.

TERM DATE CHANGES
Please note that Spring Half Term is actually 17th- 24th February and not 11-20th as previously listed.
Lessons at Ridgeway will finish on Saturday 9th December and not Saturday 16th December as originally listed due to Ridgeway School having a Christmas function. Therefore watch week will be on Sat 9th December at Ridgeway School with a charity coffee and cake sale to raise money for Tommy’s the baby charity.
CHOREOGRAPHY COMPETITION
The choreography competition will be returning due to popular demand from last year. The date is to be confirmed but it will be before we break up for the Spring Term.

LAMDA SPEECH & DRAMA ENROLMENT
LAMDA speech & drama classes commence on Sat 7th October and times will be confirmed no later than the end of September. Anyone who is new to LAMDA should have had a letter confirming a meeting with Syliva on 9th September to assess what grade to work towards.

Unfortunately though this means Emma can no longer teach at Cavat but we warmly welcome Lucy Beecham who will take over Emma's Saturday classes.

As the School gets bigger it is vital parents check the notice boards and website regularly to keep up to date with any relevant information. Term dates, watch weeks, new teachers etc. Children who only attend Christ Church classes will be kept informed.
